Battle of the North Sea, South Pacific and Midway

(A comedy of errors in the 1/144 WCC)

from Greg McFadden,WCC

Three Fleets converged for battle, intent on maximizing the damage to the

Opposing fleet.  Fleet A consisted of Phill (Mutsu), B consisted of Kieth

and Kara?? (Fleet unknown), and fleet C consisted of George and Greg

(Yamashiro and Yamato).  The Mutsu converged in the North Sea battleground

and waited for her enemies to show...  and waited...  and waited...

The Yamato and Yamashiro prepped and ready for battle arrived on the scene

prepared for them and discovered that the south pacific had been filled in

and made to look more natural.  They muttered their displeasure at not

finding the warm water waiting for them...  They waited for a bit and then

decided to see if anyone had shown up at Midway.  They made a brief stop off

on the way for some Asian food and some Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.  Apparently

around this time, Kieth and fleet B arrived and discovered the same thing

and left.  Arriving at midway and still not finding anyone to battle, the

treacherous Yamashiro turned on her admiral's flagship.  Luckily, this had

been foreseen and all but the two aft guns were disabled.

After about 45 minutes of setup and with barley 1/3 filled co2 tanks the two

ships departed port and engaged each other.  Yamato had misfiring trouble on

her starboard sidemounts (later determined to be debris in the piston)

which resulted in her port sidemounts being available along with the triple

sterns.  Yamato also noticed an interesting design flaw...  the wake well

right behind the ship is high enough that at Flank speed the sterns hit the

well, (this will be corrected before the next battle) instead of going on...

(the well is higher than the main deck, what a wake)  Yamashiro had

discovered that she only had sterns...  and that the Yamato while not having

quite as tight a turning circle at speed, could make a 180 degree turn much

faster.  With this, the only thing left for the Yamato to do was to chase

the enemy...

Needless to say, Yamato emptied her triple sterns with some good hits on the

Yamashiro, but the additional experience of her captain and ship along with

the blood lust on the part of the Yamato and her new hull (as opposed to a

holed and unpatched hull that made counting impossible on the Yamashiro)

insured that while neither ship was in danger, it was the Yamashiro that

would officially win the day.

Now onto the technical details.  Yamato is getting her sidemounts changed,

Yamashiro is being decommissioned to be replaced with the Musashi.  The new

***************CENSORED************ sheeting method, consisting of

***************Censored**************  worked flawlessly and no gashes were

made in the Yamato despite many off angle hits.  This new method resulted in

a less splinterable balsa.  Details to be shared with all axis captains.

The new cannon design is now in revision 2 , the Yamato has revision 1a guns

which work fine but revision 2 makes for easier tweaking and lower tolerance

requirements on the breech.  Yamato is being refit with revision 2 cannons

on the sidemounts (the triple sterns are fine and work so they will be left

alone).
